Emma joined Hudgell Solicitors in 2014 and handles a range of clinical negligence cases including surgical errors, delays in diagnosing cancer, development of pressure sores, birthing injuries and still births. She also deals with dental negligence matters including delay in diagnosing gum disease. Emma also has experience of attending inquests on behalf of clients in fatal cases.
I am very proud of the work we do here. It’s really important that people are able to have their voices heard when it comes medical errors and it is always very rewarding to achieve a successful outcome on a case, whether that be financial compensation, an apology, answers to why or how something has happened and ultimately to bring closure. I feel we also play an important role in raising awareness of shortfalls and failings within hospitals to ensure that work can be done to prevent these things from happening again.
I am aware that many of my clients, and their families have been through very traumatic and difficult events and I like to think that I am very approachable and always willing to listen to their concerns and explain the claims process in a very straight forward way.
One of my proudest achievements to date was securing a hard-fought settlement for a client who had insufficient treatment at hospital following an injury to his foot and ankle. As a result of this, the client was left with a degree of ongoing disability and chronic pain syndrome. This case was firmly denied, however we managed to secure an out of court settlement for the client.
I am also proud of achieving settlement on a case which involved the client suffering a fracture to his jaw during a routine wisdom tooth extraction. The client in this case suffered permanent sensory damage, facial scarring and required further surgery which could have been avoided.
